📝 Business Meetings

How our group governs itself between meetings.

Tradition Five

“Each group has but one primary purpose — to carry its message to the alcoholic who still suffers.”

📚  About A.A. Business Meetings

In most groups, the chairperson or another officer calls the business meeting, which ordinarily is held on a monthly or quarterly basis. While some groups may occasionally permit nonmembers to attend, the group may request that only home group members participate or vote.

The order of business may include electing new officers; scheduling meetings; receiving and discussing the treasurer’s periodic financial reports; hearing progress reports from the general service representative and other group servants; and apportioning excess funds among the local intergroup, GSO, and the area and district treasuries.

⚖️  How We Run the Meeting
  • All participants are muted but can unmute themselves to share.
  • Sharing is done by recognition of a raised Zoom hand.
  • A loose adaptation of Robert’s Rules of Order applies: motions made and seconded, then discussion, then a yea-or-nay vote by raised hands.
  • Motions critical to the group are tabled for one week before being voted on.
